Cannabinoids
WHAT IS A CANNABINOID?
THC – Tetrahydrocannabinol<>
Cannabis plant produces cannabinoids which are the active chemical ingredients. We identify more than 100 different cannabinoids. But research focuses on only two of them so far: delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD).
A cannabinoid is one of a class of diverse chemical compounds that acts on cannabinoid receptors in cells; that alter neurotransmitter release in the brain. Ligands for these receptor proteins include the endocannabinoids, the phytocannabinoids and synthetic cannabinoids. And therefore most people may not realize that the cannabis plant holds over 480 natural components, within this can be found a complex and varying group of molecules known as cannabinoids.
